Tanzania has expanded its health facility network, improving access to primary care. By 2022, 81% of births occurred in health facilities. However, rural areas still face shortages in infrastructure, providers, and essential services. Ensuring climate-resilient infrastructure remains a key priority. RMNCAH services have improved significantly, with 85% of births attended by skilled workers and declining maternal mortality. Immunisation coverage recovered post-COVID-19, and stunting rates have fallen, though nutrition and adolescent health gaps persist. In communicable diseases, HIV programs show strong results: 78% of adults living with HIV are virally suppressed. TB detection has improved, though MDR-TB remains a threat10. Malaria prevalence has declined, but climate change may reverse gains.

NCDs and mental health services are being integrated into primary care, yet coverage remains limited. Mental health services, in particular, suffer from low funding and workforce shortages, though recent government strategies aim to address this. Pandemic preparedness strengthened after COVID-19, with improved testing, critical care capacity, and the launch of a national emergency operations centre. However, resource constraints remain. Overall, service delivery is broadening and becoming more resilient, but disparities in quality and reach persist, especially in underserved regions and emerging service areas like NCDs and mental health.
