About the Project
CADRE SURVEILLANCE
The Cyclical Acquired HIV Drug Resistance (CADRE) is a laboratory-based surveillance implemented in collaboration by MDH, the MOH, and the U.S. CDC. The CADRE is designed as repeated annual cross-sectional surveys which aim to estimate the prevalence, describe the pattern, and understand risk factors of acquired HIV drug resistance (HIVDR) among PLHIV (adults and children) on DTG-based regimens for at least 9 months, to inform HIV treatment guidelines. The surveillance utilises remnant HVL specimens from clients with unsuppressed HVL (≥1,000 copies/mL) identified from nine strategically selected high-volume HVL laboratories across the Tanzanian mainland and Zanzibar, aimed at maximising representativeness of the PLHIV on ART care in the country. The laboratories function as sentinel surveillance sites for standardised specimen identification, handling, documentation, and referral to centralised HIVDR testing at the Temeke specialised laboratory (TSL)
