Health Information System (HIS) 2015-2020 is a 5-year PEPFAR-CDC funded project that aims at integrating, strengthening and improving the existing HIS and HIV services databases. The project capitalizes on MDH’s longstanding track record in supporting the national electronic, individual level data recording, aggregation, M&E and reporting system for HIV and related services.Through its HIV programs, MDH has – over the years – recruited, trained and deployed hundreds of data and IT officers across supported HFs and councils, supported establishment of over 150 DHIS-2 cascade nodes to decentralize and improve efficiency of DHIS-2 reporting; and supported infrastructure, equipment and supplies to facilitate electronic data systems. In the current HIS 2015-20 project MDH envisages to put in place integrated next generation HIS, including: Client Registry, Electronic Medical Records (EMR); interoperable HIV services electronic HIS; and biometric unique patient identification; to streamline, optimize and improve patient care, program M&E and reporting. Key successes to date include: updating CTC2 database to respond to current advances and priorities in HIV care (VL monitoring, differentiated SDM, tracking referrals and client movements); and established a digital national repository for all HIV CTC data (i.e. the CTC-3 Macro). Furthermore, MDH has successfully developed and deployed key systems i.e.: EMR system in 3 HFs in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, with 7 other HFs in the pipeline and plans for scale-up across another 26 referral hospitals in discussion; as well as the biometric unique identification system in HIV services, in Zanzibar, to facilitate linkage, tracking and monitoring of patient services across systems and databases (i.e. HTS, CTC, Pharmacy) with plans underway for scale-up in Pemba and Tanzania mainland
